Silisponges – The New Beauty Blender?

It’s been all over the beauty media lately — Allure, Cosmopolitan, Byrdie — and for good reason! We haven’t seen a new tool turn the makeup industry on its head since the Original Beauty Blender hit the market a few years ago.

What is a Silisponge?

You can buy them on Amazon

The Silisponge is an innovative makeup applicator first debuted by Hong Kong based company Molly Cosmetics. Unlike traditional blenders, which of course we all use and do a great job, the new Silicone Sponge is made of a durable, non-porous thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) covering that does not absorb any of your product. According to MC’s website, “Wasting products is history now cos, of course, it doesn’t soak in a thing!”

The inside of the sponge is made of semi-solid silicone. This means it is easy to mould it to fit the contours of your face in order to evenly distribute foundation and creme makeup for a flawless, air-brushed look. Slightly fold to press concealer underneath the eyes (goodbye, dark circles!), lay flat to cover up blemishes and uneven skin tone, and then use to push cream blush into the apples of your cheeks.

It’s perfect! For most makeup except for power-based items such as loose powder and eye shadow. Just check out the video below to see what we’re talking about:

Silisponge Benefits

The best benefit is that you get the most even distribution of your foundation to make your skin look like perfection. On top of that, you have to use a fraction of the amount of product as before – sometimes only one drop of foundation will work!

It’s also hella hygienic. You no longer have to dip your fingers into your makeup, or use germ covered hands to spread your foundation around your face. Because it doesn’t absorb makeup, dirt or grime off your face like more traditional makeup sponges do, it stays more clean, itself. And all you have to do to keep it that way is rub it with a little soap and rinse under water after each use.

Silicone Beauty Blenders are More Hygienic

In addition to reducing waste of your precious hauls and favorites (bye, bye empties!!), if you’re a professional makeup artist or someone who uses disposable sponges, these new silicone versions are just wash, wipe and go! Since they are reusable, you save money in the long run and help the environment, too!

Once this new sponge becomes your favorite beauty tool, it’ll help increase the life of the other loves of your beauty bag, like your round brush and beauty blender for powder makeup and final touchups and final blending.

Can I get a Silisponge at Sephora, Ulta or Amazon?

Good luck trying to get your hands on silisponges from Molly Cosmetics themselves! They are on backorder until the end of January 2017.  But instead of using a dupe or a hack, you can get the Original Clear Beauty Sponge by Sano! This Silisponge alternative offers all of the same benefits with one extra great thing – it’s in stock now! That means you can get it before 2017 is over, and you can use to craft your perfect New Years Eve makeup! You can also get it here on Sano’s website.

Wool Dryer Balls: 3 Reasons to Make the Switch

3 Reasons to Dump Your Dryer Sheets and Go Balls to the Wall

Screen Shot 2016-04-21 at 10.37.27 AMWe’re all familiar with dryer sheets. Downy, Bounce, Fabreeze…these brands grace the shelves of every Target, Walmart and supermarket you’ve probably ever visited.

But did you know that there are better, more efficient ways to dry your laundry, reduce static, and add beautiful fragrance to your family’s clothes?

Enter: Dryer Balls

Dryer balls, specifically wool hand felted ones, are the ideal Screen Shot 2016-04-21 at 10.38.08 AMreplacement to outdated, chemical-laden, commercial sheets. They work by tumbling through your laundry, separating your otherwise tangled wet clothing. This helps warm air to circulate more efficiently through your laundry. What this does is shorten your cycle, helping to save you money in the long run. In short, these laundry gems prevent your clothes from sticking together and clumping, and increase air circulation. All of this helps reduce the amount of time it takes your clothes to dry. Thanks for the reduction in my electric bill! (In case you didn’t know, running the dryer is the home appliance that uses the most electricity in your home).

Another thing that is great about these felted wool alternatives is that they are reusable for thousands and thousands of cycles. For example, I have been using these: for 6  months so far, and they look just as good as the day I got them. If you do see any pilling, it’s not a bad thing. It only increases the surface area that the balls can absorb moisture.

Speaking of absorbing moisture, that’s another way that dryer balls save you time and energy. The wool material gradually absorbs the moisture that is expelled from your laundry, gently fluffing up the balls. Not only does this make them bigger so they separate your clothes more efficiently, but it also leads to better, quicker drying of your loved ones shirts, pants, sweaters and delicates. You don’t get these advantages with those hedgehog dryer balls, or the more common plastic ones.

Dryer Balls Replace Both Sheets and Fabric Softener

The best dryer balls will literally pay for themselves. Above we discussed that the balls separate your laundry and help prevent clumping. This of course reduces your dry time, saving you moolah in your electric bill every month. Additionally, it allows air to circulate more efficiently, AND they also bump up against your clothes, helping them to soften up. Just take a look at this picture that compares a towel dried with and without it.

Look at how much dryer balls fluff up an old towel! All without chemicals.

Not only do you save time, shopping and money from not needing to buy extra laundry accessories, you save your family from being exposed to a crazy amount of chemicals. This article from the EPA explains some of the dangers you may unwittingly be exposing your children to. Check out the link above to see some of the side effects, too.

Worried About Losing Fragrance?

Don’t be. You can use your favorite restorative essential oils — DoTerra, Young Living and Now Brands all work great. And you can custom blend for a your own signature scents! I love Lavender and Citrus.
